His family’s ANZAC connection is deeply personal—his grandfather, Alexander Kinloch Carruthers, served with the New Zealand armed forces in Egypt and France during the First World War. Alastair Carruthers currently serves as Deputy Chair of the Auckland War Museum Trust Board, and has held significant governance roles across Auckland’s cultural and civic institutions, including Auckland Unlimited, the Auckland Regional Amenities Funding Board, Tātaki Auckland Unlimited, and most recently as Chair of the Cornwall Park Trust Board and the Sir John Logan Campbell legacy trusts. His reflections on service, heritage, and remembrance will add a meaningful dimension to this year’s gathering. Dear Members, Dig out your glad rags and attend this year’s first Officers’ Club Formal Dinner on Friday 21 February; a Signature Event that offers a lens into our nations future security in a geo political context. Our Guest of Honour, the Minister of Defence, Hon Judith Collins KC, will enlighten us on the benefits of NZ joining AUKUS, Pillar 11, the trilateral security partnership between Aust. UK and the US that promotes a free and open Indo - Pacific that is secure and stable, including collaboration on advanced capabilities.  She will also explain the possible ramifications if we don’t join.
